Management Services: Sentinel Event Evaluation

GOAL:
|
To obtain a rapid (7-14 day) objective evaluation of an individual
practitioner’s performance in a sentinel episode of care in the acute inpatient
or ambulatory care setting.
|

WHEN NEEDED:
|
QMCG Accelerated Sentinel Event Evaluation of a practitioner’s performance is
appropriate when privileges are in abeyance (temporary suspension) while an
objective investigation of events and actions are evaluated.
|
|
DESCRIPTION:
|
QMCG will conduct an independent review of the subject practitioner as reflected
in the sentinel episode of care medical record using the following process:

Immediate selection and credentialing of a qualified peer review practitioner
who has no bias or conflict of interest with the practitioner(s) to be reviewed
-
Seven to fourteen (7-14 day average) turnaround time from receipt of medical
record to final report
-
Concise standard of care determination with detail on alternatives of care and
opportunity for improvement
-
Opportunity for conference call on the day of final report receipt to review
results
-
Ongoing support as needed, i.e., testimony at a fair hearing, assistance in the
development of retraining or monitoring programs

DURATION:
|
The Accelerated Sentinel Event Evaluation process can be accomplished in 7-14
days from the time the medical record is received.
|
