   QM Services: Medical Staff Integration

During organization shifts in collaboration, affiliation and acquisition, M.D. and/or D.O. providers may face fundamental change in patient care delivery and organization operations. Caring for patients in an era where continuous performance improvement is now the standard, requires early blending and effective communications among all professionals involved.

GOAL:

To effectively assist the organization and its medical staff in their efforts to integrate diverse philosophies of medicine and improve health care delivery and quality.

WHEN NEEDED:

Before, during or after affiliation, merger or organizational or restructuring changes that affect the medical staff directly or indirectly.

DESCRIPTION:

QMCG's proven approach to integration will provide the process and timeline for integration and facilitate the integration efforts as follows:

    PHASE I Preliminary assessment of medical staff and focus on new goals of structure leadership and commonality using a blended working group

    PHASE II Create and assess governing documents and make revisions as needed

    PHASE III Assess and create leadership structure, special service needs and JCAHO functional requirements

    PHASE IV Create or revise integrated delineation of clinical privileges for new medical staff structure

Each phase will contain multiple components which together form the future intent and unique organizational goals of the system. Specifics of the phases include, but are not limited to:

    Planning assessment & evaluation meetings

    Bylaws, rules & regulations, and policy revisions as needed

    Structured interviews with key staff

    Privileging process review and delineated clinical privilege set creation

    Document review and efficiency evaluations/revision

    Organization structure review and analysis

    Communication facilitation

 

QMCG STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan and select participants and core group activities

Evaluate organization mission, vision and guiding principles

Interview sample and specific stakeholders

Assess climate and perceptions

Evaluate current process road blocks and likenesses

Facilitate open participation and communication

Plan program of integration with goals, timelines and responsible personnel

Review/revise governing documents

Plan central verification program, revise current privileging process as needed

Revise current medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations and privilege sets

Offer other assistance in areas of sub-concerns

DURATION:

M.D./D.O. medical staff integration can be accomplished in 6 - 12 months (average).
