2005 Hospital's National Patient Safety Goals
Announced Per JCAHO
August 2004

Seven patient safety goals are now required by JCAHO. The 2005 goals are as follows:

1. Improve the accuracy of patient identification
2. Improve the effectiveness of communication among caregivers⁺
3. Improve the safety of using medications⁺
4. Improve the safety of using infusion pumps
5. Reduce the risk of health care associated infections
6. Accurately and completely reconcile medications across the continuum of care*
7. Reduce the risk of patient harm resulting from falls*

⁺Indicates goals, which have enhanced monitoring requirements for 2005.
*Indicates the newest goals and monitoring requirements.
