Does my county still need long-term care beds?
June 2010
By April 1, 2010, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) posted each county’s
long-term care bed need or excess, identifying the maximum number of beds that
may be approved for relocation pursuant to the comparative review process. In
calculating the bed need or excess, ODH had to first identify each county’s
current bed supply. A county’s bed supply includes the number of licensed
nursing home beds, beds certified as nursing facility or skilled nursing
facility, certain county home beds, and beds held under an approved Certificate
of Need. Will a county’s bed need or excess for the July, 2010 comparative
review process change as contiguous county bed relocation projects are
implemented? No, a contiguous county bed relocation project that is implemented
after a county’s bed need or excess is calculated and posted will not impact a
county’s bed supply for the current comparative review process. ODH will not
re-calculate a county’s bed need or excess to account for a contiguous county
bed relocation project that was implemented after the county’s bed need or
excess is posted. For more information, please contact Chris Kenney at
