The Ohio Department of Health Schedules Hearing Date for Pending Rules for the
Licensing of Maternity and Newborn Care Units

The Ohio Department of Health proposed new Ohio Administrative Code rules
3701-7-01 to 3701-7-17 for the licensing of maternity units, newborn care
nurseries, and maternity homes. These pending rules replace health care
service rules 3701-84-42 to 3701-84-65 of the Ohio Administrative Code.
The pending rules 1) update professional standards; 2) update application fees;
3) base licensure fees on service level classification; 4) change inspection
frequency from annual to triennial; 5) provide for additional drill
requirements; 6) update staff educational requirements; and 7) set forth
requirements for children’s hospitals, among other proposed changes.

The rules were introduced to the Public Health Council on April 22, 2010 and a
public hearing concerning these rules will be held at 10:00 A.M. on June 10,
2010 at the Ohio Department of Health, located at 246 North High Street,
