The Ohio Department of Health Revises Hearing Date for Proposed Rules for the
Licensing of Maternity and Newborn Care Units
March 2010
The Ohio Department of Health is proposing new Ohio Administrative Code rules
3701-7-01 to 3701-7-17 for the licensing of maternity units, newborn care
nurseries, and maternity homes. These proposed rules replace health care
service rules 3701-84-42 to 3701-84-65 of the Ohio Administrative Code. The
proposed rules 1) update professional standards; 2) update application fees; 3)
base licensure fees on service level classification; 4) change inspection
frequency from annual to triennial; 5) provide for additional drill
requirements; 6) update staff educational requirements; and 7) set forth
requirements for children’s hospitals, among other proposed changes. Proposed
rules may be reviewed at
http://www.odh.ohio.gov/rules/drafts/drafts.aspx. Please note that
prior to being introduced, the Department may make further revisions to the
posted rules to address recommendations from the advisory council. The proposed
rules are now expected to be introduced to the Public Health Council on April
22, 2010 and a public hearing concerning these proposed rules will be held at
10:00 A.M. on June 10, 2010 at the Ohio Department of Health, located at 246
North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215, in the 8th floor conference room.
