The Ohio Department of Health Proposes Rules for the Licensing of Maternity and
Newborn Care Units

The Ohio Department of Health is proposing new Ohio Administrative Code rules
3701-7-01 to 3701-7-17 for the licensing of maternity units, newborn care
nurseries, and maternity homes. These proposed rules replace health care
service rules 3701-84-42 to 3701-84-65 of the Ohio Administrative Code. The
proposed rules 1) update professional standards; 2) update application fees; 3)
base licensure fees on service level classification; 4) change inspection
frequency from annual to triennial; 5) provide for additional drill
requirements; 6) update staff educational requirements; and 7) set forth
requirements for children’s hospitals, among other proposed changes.

Council will hold a public hearing concerning these proposed rules at 10:00
A.M. on April 26, 2010 at the Ohio Department of Health, located at 246 North
High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215, in the 8th floor conference room.
